Last Expense FARAJA Benevolent Fund Plan

Faraja Benevolent Fund provides financial assistance and support to our members in need. This fund was established to help individuals facing financial hardship due to the demise of a loved one. The primary goal of Faraja Benevolent Fund is to offer relief and support to those in need, promoting a sense of community and compassion. Don’t walk alone in those trying moments. “Tuko Pamoja”.

Details

(1)Eligibility:

(a)This is a scheme for all members and shall be open to all active members. Those covered by this scheme include the spouse to the principal member, child/ children, parents and/or parents in law.

(b)A member of the Fund shall be a person, who having been admitted as a member in accordance with the rules governing the fund, shall have consistently paid his subscription. No person shall be entitled to any claims whose subscription at the time has been in arrears for a period exceeding three months.

(c)The below minimum and maximum ages at entry apply:

Children 2 weeks 21 years Up to 25 years with proof of being a fulltime student
*Only biological or legally adopted children, parents and parents in law are eligible for cover.

(2)Application for Membership:

(a)All persons shall be inducted into this fund by virtue of being a member of Haraka Sacco,

(b)To pay the prescribed membership fee annually/half yearly/quarterly/monthly, as prescribed from time to time.

(3)Cessation of Membership: A member shall cease to be member of the Fund in the event of:

(a)Withdrawal from membership of the Fund;

(b)Ceasing to be employed on account of retirement/resignation/dismissal/death etc.

(c)Non-payment of the subscription of the Fund continuously for three months.

(4)Beneficiaries:

(a)Members are required to provide details of their next of kin and/or beneficiaries as per Schedule A below.

(b)The benefits of the ‘Fund’ shall be confined to Haraka Sacco members and only to members, who have enrolled themselves as members of the Fund for a least three months continuously and immediately prior to application for such benefits;

(c)Declared members of the family of the principal consisting of widows/widowers and dependent sons, daughters and parents;

(5)Assistance to Members: The quantum of relief in each case shall be determined as per the allotments in the Schedule A below.

Proof of Bereavement:
Applicants will be required to provide valid documentation to facilitate all claims:
Duly completed claim form
Original or certified copy of a valid burial permit
Certified copy of the deceased ID/Passport or Letter of surrender of ID
Certified copy of the beneficiary’s ID/Passport
Certified copy of birth certificate for children
Police abstract for all accidental deaths

Exclusions
Haraka Sacco shall not be obliged to make any payment(s) in respect of any condition or event arising directly or indirectly from or traceable to:
Breach of any criminal law by you or anyone acting on behalf or with or with your permission or knowledge or by anyone claiming a benefit under this policy
Self -inflicted injury or attempted suicide within the first one (1) year from the date of commencement or reinstatement of the policy
Driving a motor vehicle while over the legal alcohol limit
Intake of illegal drugs or alcohol
Active and willful participation in war, civil commotion, riot, terrorist activity, or rebellion. Radioactivity or nuclear explosion

Breach of any claim
Application Process:
There will be a defined process for applying for the bereavement fund, including deadlines and required documents.

Benefit Amount:
This is the amount or benefits that eligible individuals can receive.
Disbursement:-
(a)Funeral expenses: Immediate relief shall be given to the dependents on the death of the principal member of the Fund to meet the funeral expenses. The relief shall not exceed the allotted amount for each category;

(b)Immediate relief shall be given to the members of the fund on the death of their dependents (spouse/sons/daughters/parents).

(6)Administration to vest in the Managing Committee of the Fund:

(a)The Administration of the Fund shall vest in a Managing Committee, which shall carry out the objects of the Fund and generally exercise all powers in furtherance thereof.

(b)Quorum: Five members of the Managing Committee shall form a quorum at any meeting to consider the application for relief disbursement to the members and/or their dependents.

(c)The Managing Committee shall have powers to frame/amend bye-laws and Rules of Procedure and Conduct of Business relating to the Benevolent Fund.

(7)Application for Assistance:

(a)Application for assistance from the members shall be received by the office of Haraka Sacco. These applications shall be vetted and considered by the Managing Committee as they arise.

(8)Indemnity Against Action etc.:
All members of the Managing Committee shall stand absolved from any liability in respect of actions, costs and all other claims made against them for any thing done or any action taken by them on behalf of the ‘Fund’ and in furtherance of the objects of the ‘Fund’.
