Last Expense FARAJA Benevolent Fund Plan

Faraja Benevolent Fund provides financial assistance and support to our members in need. This fund was established to help individuals facing financial hardship due to the demise of a loved one. The primary goal of Faraja Benevolent Fund is to offer relief and support to those in need, promoting a sense of community and compassion. Don’t walk alone in those trying moments. “Tuko Pamoja”.


Standing With You in Your Time of Need


The Faraja Benevolent Fund is Haraka Sacco’s bereavement support program, established to provide financial assistance and compassionate support to members during the loss of a loved one.
We understand that bereavement brings emotional and financial challenges. Through this fund, members receive timely support to help ease funeral-related expenses and ensure they do not face difficult moments alone.
Who Can Join?
The Faraja Benevolent Fund is open to all active Haraka Sacco members.
The scheme extends cover to eligible members of your immediate family, including:
• Principal member
• One spouse
• Biological or legally adopted children
• Parents
• Parents-in-law
To remain eligible for benefits, members must:
• Maintain active Haraka Sacco membership.
• Keep their Benevolent Fund contributions up to date.
• Have no contribution arrears exceeding three (3) consecutive months.

Eligibility

The following age limits apply when enrolling in the Fund:
Category Entry Age Period of Cover
Principal Member 18–69 years Throughout active membership, provided contributions remain up to date
Spouse 18–69 years Throughout active membership
Parents & Parents-in-law 30–84 years Throughout active membership
Children From 2 weeks to 21 years Up to 25 years if enrolled as full-time students
Please Note: Only biological or legally adopted children, parents, and parents-in-law are eligible for cover.

Joining the Fund


Enrollment into the Faraja Benevolent Fund is available to Haraka Sacco members.
Members are required to:
• Complete the Fund registration process.
• Nominate their beneficiaries or next of kin.
• Maintain active membership by making regular contributions.

Affordable Membership Contributions


The Faraja Benevolent Fund is designed to provide meaningful financial protection at an affordable cost. Members contribute through convenient payment options in accordance with the Fund’s approved contribution schedule.
Contribution rates are reviewed periodically to ensure the Fund remains sustainable while continuing to serve members effectively.

Financial Support During Bereavement


When an eligible bereavement occurs, the Fund provides financial assistance to help members and their families meet funeral-related expenses.
Support is available for eligible claims involving:
• The principal member
• One registered spouse
• Eligible children
• Eligible parents
• Eligible parents-in-law
Once a claim has been approved and the required documentation has been verified, assistance is processed promptly to provide timely relief during bereavement.

Beneficiaries


Members are encouraged to nominate their next of kin or beneficiaries during registration.
Benefits are payable only where:
• The member has remained active in the Fund.
• Contributions have been maintained continuously for at least three (3) months before a claim is made.
• The deceased falls within the eligible family categories covered by the Fund.
Keeping beneficiary information up to date helps ensure claims are processed without unnecessary delays.

Required Claim Documents


To facilitate prompt processing of bereavement claims, applicants should submit:
• A duly completed claim form.
• Original or certified copy of the burial permit.
• Certified copy of the deceased’s National ID or Passport, or an official letter confirming surrender of the ID.
• Certified copy of the beneficiary’s National ID or Passport.
• Certified copy of the child’s birth certificate (where applicable).
• Police abstract report for accidental deaths.
Additional documentation may be requested where necessary to support the claim.

When Membership Ends


Membership in the Faraja Benevolent Fund ceases when a member:
• Voluntarily withdraws from the Fund.
• Ceases to be a Haraka Sacco member through resignation, retirement, dismissal, or death.
• Fails to make the required contributions for more than three (3) consecutive months.

Exclusions


The Fund does not provide benefits where death or injury results directly or indirectly from:
• Criminal or unlawful activities.
• Self-inflicted injury or suicide within the first year after joining or reinstatement.
• Driving while above the legal alcohol limit.
• Illegal drug or alcohol abuse.
• Active participation in war, civil unrest, riots, rebellion, terrorism, or nuclear and radioactive events.
Claims that fall outside the Fund’s terms and conditions may not qualify for assistance.

How to Make a Claim


In the unfortunate event of a bereavement:

Notify Haraka Sacco as soon as possible.

Complete the Benevolent Fund claim form.

Submit all the required supporting documents.

The Managing Committee will review and verify the claim.

Once approved, financial assistance will be processed promptly.
Our goal is to ensure members receive support quickly during their time of need.

Governance and Administration


The Faraja Benevolent Fund is administered by a dedicated Managing Committee responsible for ensuring the Fund operates fairly, transparently, and in accordance with its governing rules.
The Committee is responsible for:
• Reviewing and approving eligible claims.
• Overseeing the administration of the Fund.
• Developing and updating Fund policies and procedures.
• Ensuring responsible stewardship of members’ contributions.
